Throughout my 15-year journey as a choral conductor and voice teacher, my teaching approach has been about creating an environment where students can truly thrive and reach their potential. I firmly believe in each student's unique abilities, and it's my job to give them the tools and support they need to succeed.
Teaching
Developing a solid vocal technique and fostering healthy singing habits is at the heart of my teaching philosophy. I believe in embracing diverse musical styles and repertoire because music isn't just an art form—it's a way to grow personally and socially. Whether I'm working with beginners or seasoned singers, building a solid technical foundation while keeping the music engaging and exciting is crucial.
But it's not just about vocal techniques. It's also about building a sense of community and belonging among my students. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental in education. I strive to create an environment where every student feels valued and supported.
As an Asian musician, I'm passionate about promoting collaboration and innovation within the music community. I integrate culturally responsive practices into my teaching, ensuring that the repertoire reflects and respects the diverse backgrounds of my singers. I actively seek opportunities to collaborate with other musicians, inviting them as guests to our choral concerts and commissioning pieces that showcase different instruments to support Chinese musicians in our community.
Moreover, I'm deeply involved in promoting and preserving cultural heritage, primarily through my work with Salt Lake Chinese Choir. I'm genuinely passionate about preserving cultural roots and passing traditions on to the next generation. I also use immersive Chinese teaching methods in children's choir to teach choral arts and Chinese cultural knowledge.

As an educator and conductor, I aim to instill a deep appreciation for choral music, provide top-notch education, and empower students to use their musical talents for personal growth and positive impact on society. I'm committed to continuous development and look forward to contributing to the vibrant community of scholars and musicians wherever my journey takes me.
