Biography
Taiwanese conductor, Dr. Yu-Feng Huang, holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Utah. With extensive experience in the choral landscape of Utah, he currently serves as the Music Director of the Salt Lake Chinese Choir.
Throughout his career, Dr. Huang has served as Music Director for numerous choirs in Taiwan, including the National Chiao-Tung University Chorus and National Cheng-Chi University Law Department Chorus. He has also had the opportunity to conduct international award-winning choirs and introduce contemporary Asian choral music to American audiences.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Huang has expanded his skillset to include sound engineering and recording, producing virtual performance videos for various musical groups. He also created the Chinese Choral Repertoire Promotion Project, which seeks to enhance intercultural communication through the introduction of Chinese literature and culture through choral music.
Dr. Huang's dissertation focused on creating guidelines for non-Chinese speakers to sing Chinese music authentically, and he received his Master of Fine Arts in Choral Conducting under Dr. Ai-Kuang Sun (孫愛光) from the National Taiwan Normal University, known for its prestigious choral program. He honed his skills under renowned conductor, Fang-Pei Lien (連芳貝), serving as a protégé with the National Taiwan University Chorus for over a decade. During his time at the University of Utah, he studied under Dr. Barlow Bradford, served as a teaching assistant for the University of Utah Chamber Choir and A Cappella Choir, and taught undergraduate conducting.
